The Definition of SEO Marketing

By David Wittlinger

At this point, most people know what SEO is. It's the process of getting your website ranked higher in the search engines, so that you gain more traffic and exposure. However, most people still do not understand the ins and outs of how it really works, and what kinds of expectations they should have when getting started with SEO marketing.

There are many different elements of an effective search marketing campaign. With SEO, the details definitely do make a big difference, and the most successful campaigns are the ones that combine many different strategies into one cohesive plan. The key ingredient of SEO however remains to be the effective use of properly targeted keywords.

A keyword is simply the word or phrase that somebody types into a search engine to perform a query. With SEO, the goal is to specifically target the correct keywords, the ones that are popular without being overly competitive. These keywords will allow you to match your market, while also ensuring you will have a chance to rank highly. The best keywords are found through research, and the goal should be to find long tail keywords, which contain three or more words and are the best way to rank highly for specifically targeted consumers.

After discovering the keywords and key phrases themselves, it's now time to actually use those phrases on your website and in your entire SEO campaign. After the proper inclusion of these phrases, you will experience an increase in traffic to your site. Not only that, but the visitors to your site will also be more targeted, providing you with better prospects and more future customers.

The usage of keywords can begin all the way with the beginning of website development. This is when you can pick a domain name that includes your best keyword, giving you an automatic chance at being highly associated with that phrase. From there, you can create all of your individual URLs and pages with additional keywords and of course, the keywords have to be included within the page content on all of your website pages.

Most people still most commonly associated keyword usage with the actual content that goes on the page. This is still true, however there is an important line that has to be made. The line is the difference between naturally included targeting keywords while providing useful, informative content and stuffing dozens of useless pages of content with superfluous keywords in hopes of finding more traffic. Clearly, the latter is a strategy doomed for success, both with your site visitors and with the search engines themselves.

In addition to these onsite SEO tactics, effective search marketing also includes offsite SEO, primarily in the form of link building. Once your website is established, you can go about the process of generating incoming links leading to your site. Each incoming link from another site to your own is like a vote for your site in the eyes of the search engines. The more votes, the better.

Once you know some of the basic processes involved with SEO you will be able to dive in for yourself. You have to remember to have realistic expectations though about what kind of work you'll need to do, or what you would like to have done for you. Additionally, while there is an unlimited upside with SEO, there aren't any free lunches either. It's a process, and it can start working very quickly, but nothing is instantaneous or guaranteed when the competition is as fierce as it currently is with search marketing.

Top Rankings Are Possible With Well Optimized Web Pages

By Michael Fleischner

After selecting the right keywords you want to optimize your website for, you need to focus on what is called on-page optimization. On page optimization is what you do on your website pages to improve organic rankings. The good news is that through years of research and experimentation I have identified the most important on page factors for improving organic rankings.

When thinking about optimizing your web site pages, there are a number of things to consider. The most important aspects of on page optimization are meta tags, the speed at which your page loads, and the URLs you're using. Even though this short list of factors may seem obvious to some, they are the most powerful aspects of on page optimization.

Meta tags are important because they provide some basic information to search engine spiders. Meta tags need to be formatted correctly to enhance search engine rankings. My research as shows that meta tags by themselves cannot radically improve rankings. However, they may be used to verify other aspects of your website and are important for getting users to click through from search engine results.

Properly formatted meta tags should include a title tag that includes the keywords that you are trying to optimize for. It is recommended that the size of the title tag is sixty or fewer characters as this is the limit shown on Google search results. The second tag, the description tag should be limited to fewer than one hundred and fifty characters and repeat your keyword phrase no more than two times.

The last meta tag worthy of description is the keyword tag. This tag is misused all too often and it may actually be hurting your search engine rankings. When using a keyword tag, focus on only a dozen of your most important and highly trafficked keywords. You want the search engines to know that you are an authority site and worthy of top rankings. Do your research and only include the keywords that truly matter. You can also evaluate the sites in the top positions and model their keywords as long as they are included on your website.

Once you have your meta tags within your web page code it is important to focus on the next on page optimization factor. The load time of your web pages matter a great deal to Google and other search engines. Not only does your web page need to be properly formatted but it needs to load quickly. Fast loading web sites mean a better user experience. Search engines like Google reward you for providing the right information quickly to web site browsers. Try to keep load times to a minimum and continually work to improve the speed at which your site loads.

The final factor related to on page optimization we are discussing today is the web site URL. The best format is to have your keyword in root of the domain. For example, it may look something like www.keyword.com. Truthfully the days of picking up a domain like this are pretty much over but you can find some options on expired domain listings. You can also add your keyword next to the root URL by creating a separate page or folder on your main directory. The other strategy you can consider is a subdomain strategy where you would place your keyword before your domain. Most hosts offer this option.

Before you start any SEO campaign, evaluate your web site, landing page, or blog from the perspective of meta tags, load speed, and URLs. There are additional on page factors we'll discuss in the next SEO article, but the three mentioned herein are vitally important to your search engine optimization success.

SEO vs SEM: What Is It And Why Is It Important to Know?

By Justin Harrison

SEO and SEM are both used almost interchangable, they commonly are bandied by webmasters. Is there really a difference? If there is a difference, what is it?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. SEM stands for Search Engine Marketing. So you see, they are different. To understand better, SEO is anything you do to your page to make it more search engine friendly. SEM is anything you do to get higher ranks in search engines, such as, search engine optimization, requesting back links, and submitting your URL to search engines.

It?s important to know the difference between the two terms; make sure you ask for all information if your unsure before going and spending money on a SEO or SEM package. For example, a company offers you a package, if you don?t ask and get all the information, you might be buying into a package that merely is the company submitting your website URL to a few search engines, something you can easily do yourself.

Information that would be good to gain would be what they plan on doing to increase traffic to your website. So they are submitting your URL to search engines? Which ones? Have them give you a list of those search engines. What about the use of keywords? Ask about keyword optimization of the website. Ask about META and ALT tags.

Whether it's called SEO or SEM, the precise names don't matter so much as the services offered and particular actions companies will take. Since SEM is so broad, it can range to anything from a comprehensive and detailed package of multiple services to a mere bare bones effort not worth buying. You need to find companies that know what they're doing and have developed a history for good business practices and treating customers fairly. With a little effort put into researching your options, you can be sure to get the best online marketing for your money.

If online marketing has pros, it also has its limitations. While the information technology sector constantly advances, internet users don't have a choice but to be at par by upgrading their software and hardware. Security problems are also a big trouble as numerous people have become sufferers of on-line theft. If you need to touch, smell, feel or taste a product, this is a shopping experience that you are not able to do online.

Nowadays, the Internet plays a more and more important role in our daily life. Every business and nowadays people too are creating their online presence. Increasing Traffic With SEO, Keywords And Link Building

By Adeline Rekli

Every webmaster is in search of more traffic - and the way to get more traffic to your site is through using SEO, keywords and link building. Webmasters and especially internet marketers have long been using these techniques to increase the visibility of their sites and to bring in more traffic.

However, there is a bit to learn if you really want to take advantage of these and make a full time income on the Internet. It all starts with search engine optimization or often referred to as SEO. It allows you to place specific keywords in your web content so people can find your information.

Then of course you can also use SEO on your website as well. When the search engine crawlers go through your site, they are looking for specific words to tell them what your site is about. In order to maximize your rankings, either place your links just below the top header or on the left hand side of the page.

The reason for this is due to the crawlers moving from left to right. The first relevant words they see, the better off you're going to be. Granted, you want your website to look fresh and helpful, but it also needs to be somewhat optimized. Just remember that if you clutter the pages with nothing but keywords, you'll end up getting yourself blacklisted from the search engines.

Though using SEO keywords are important, link building is also an important part of making your site more visible online. Search engine optimizing your site in conjunction with a link building campaign can significantly increase traffic to your site. Having more links not only improves your search engine ranking but also brings you traffic directly from readers who click the links to your site. You can build links through strategies like article marketing and video marketing. While SEO is important, you also need to combine link building with it. When the two of these are put together, it not only optimizes your content, but it also gives visitors an opportunity to click a link to your site. This is through various marketing strategies like with article or video marketing.

There are many websites which allow you to upload articles, each with a link to your site at the bottom of the article. Two such article directories used for link building are iSnare and Ezine. The more links you build to your site, the more traffic you'll see come in and the higher your search engine ranking will be.

For many of you, this might be the first you've heard of SEO, keywords and link building; but if you want to make a success of your website, these are all techniques you will have to master. These methods are the most effective ways to increase your traffic, gain a reputation and for online businesses, drive sales.

It's well worth taking some time to learn more about using SEO, keywords and link building for your site. If you have questions about SEO or other methods, just get in touch; we'd be happy to help you get started.
